Local Health Unit of Arrábida
The Local Health Unit of Arrábida (ULSA) was established following the publication of Decree-Law No. 233/2005, of December 29, in the Official Gazette, resulting from the merger of São Bernardo Hospital (HSB) with the Sant’Iago do Outão Orthopedic Hospital (HOSO).
It is a corporate entity of a public nature, with administrative, financial, and patrimonial autonomy. The applicable legal framework is that of public enterprise entities and their respective statutes, acting in accordance with the regulatory framework of the National Health Service (SNS) and as established within the institution’s Internal Regulations.
The ULSA has the mission “to promote health for all citizens within the responsibilities and capabilities of the hospitals that comprise it, providing specialized healthcare, respecting the dignity of patients, and fostering the professional development of its employees within a framework of organizational quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.”
The ULSA is organized according to a departmental logic (Surgery, Medicine, Anesthesiology, Women and Children, Psychiatry and Mental Health, Locomotor System, and Complementary Means of Diagnosis and Therapy), which are supported by the Medical Action Support Services and General Support and Logistics services.
The healthcare activities carried out by this hospital unit are developed in a complementary manner with other hospital units located in the Setúbal Peninsula – the Garcia de Orta Hospital and the Barreiro Montijo Hospital Center, and, in the field of primary healthcare, in coordination with the Arrábida Group of Health Centers.
